Sailor Nails

So, I'm being a sailor for Halloween and decided to do my nails for the occasion.  I went to Walgreens where they are currently having a sale on Sinful Colors nailpolish (2/$3).  I bought six colors that I'll make a "haul" post of later.

For this design, I started off with a base using 112 "Tokyo Pearl" by Sinful Colors.  I found that more than one coat takes a while to dry, I think the picture above is with only one coat.

Next, I used 282 "Love Nails" by Sinful Colors as a tip.  To do this I put tape on my fingertips after letting the base coat dry for quite a while.

I finished off with a smaller line of 832 "This Is It" by Sinful Colors.  I also did a few designs, though they aren't that noticeable.

The thumb has a ship's wheel, the middle finger has an anchor, and the index and pinky fingers have some dots underneath the tips.  These were all made with 832 "This Is It" by Sinful Colors.  I got them on with a scoring tool.

I also found this at the Walgreens and it proved to be pretty helpful.

I do have a few questions - what other ways have you found that are very easy ways to get straight tips, besides using tape?  The tape has started to become an issue since I have to wait for the base to dry before putting the tape on and it makes doing nails a much longer process.

Also, what kind of thin brush would be good to use with nail polishes?  Just a regular acrylic brush?  I hope getting one will help when doing the thin lines like the gold here.

Last question - what kinds of tools do you use to actually draw your designs on, if you're freehanding them?

Thanks for reading!  -MJ

Spin on a French

My friend is going as a pink baseball babe for halloween so I decided to go with an "Elephantastic Pink" from OPI as a base and a "Black Out" from Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear. It's not spectacular, but I did it, so I wanted to put it on my blog =)

Three Halloween Designs

Viewing Asami's blog really inspired me to do my own nails, so here's what I came up with from some of her Halloween designs.

For the orange I used Milani #147 "Lively in Orange", the yellow and white, respectively, are Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear #27 "Mellow Yellow" and #21 "White Out". I used a black sharpie for the spider and jack-o-lantern designs.

The next design was made especially for my friend's Halloween costume, she's going to be a pink leopard cat. So, I did her nails with some pink leopard spots!

The lighting isn't fantastic, and the photo is taken with my phone. Anyway, I used OPI "Elephantastic Pink", which I think is #142, for the base, Revlon #912 "Posh Pink" for the spots, and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear #28 "Black Out" for the spot outlines.

My last design for today is another Halloween look, this time with new designs.

This design was done just for complete fun at a get-together last night. On the pinky is a poorly made lollipop with some spots in the background, the thumbs have a spider web and a spider, and the middle fingers sport a little ghost with some stripes and spots in the background. These photos were also taken with my phone, I'm going to try carrying around my real camera when I do nails, now, haha. All colors used are colors previously mentioned, but I'll list them again. Background orange is #147 "Lively in Orange" by Milani, yellow in ghost spots and lollipop is #27 "Mellow Yellow" by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, black for spider, spots around lollipop, and stripes behind ghost is #28 "Black Out" by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, pink for lollipop is #142 "Elephantastic Pink" by OPI, and the white for web, eyes, and ghost is #21 "White Out" by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear.

I hope you enjoyed these three designs, and if you have any questions, let me know!

First Post

Hi everyone, this is my first post. My name is MJ and I am a friend of Asami's from Nails By Asami. I'll be posting different little nail designs here that I do on my own as well as on my friends' nails. I like to try out the designs that Asami posts as well as come up with a few of my own, so we'll see how it all goes.

These are my first attempts with decorative nail art, so don't judge me too harshly! =) Thanks for reading!
